Emmalita's Reviews:

Wil Wheaton is a hell of a narrator.

January 3, 2017 by Emmalita 2 Comments

I listened to Armada, narrated by Wil Wheaton. Wil Wheaton can make an ok book into a great listen. (Thanks, Natalie!) I am glad I put some space between Ready Player One and Armada. RP1 is a masterpiece of nostalgia, while Armada trades in the same nostalgia, it’s less graceful. It’s impossible not to compare the two, however I think I put enough distance between them that my disappointments and delights are all related to this book on it’s own. Mostly. The central idea of […]

It’s Not What You Think

January 3, 2017 by Emmalita 8 Comments

I was looking for something fun, or rollicking. I remembered that I had seen a book advertised as “Firefly meets The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.” That sounded like what I was looking for. It was and it wasn’t. I enjoyed it very much and I don’t want to go into the plot or even the characters much. You should be unspoiled for this book as much as possible. The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is a contemplative, character driven space opera. Earth […]

Honestly, being a teen assassin sounds easier than my life.

I enjoyed the Throne of Glass series so much I couldn’t make myself stop between books to write reviews. And then shit happened and I have three partial reviews so instead of trying to write either three reviews or 1 comprehensive review, I’m going to throw out a bunch of remembered thoughts and then try to say something reasonably coherent. As taken as I was with the books, I got bogged down in writing the review and eventually abandoned and forgot it. I found it […]

Let the Wookie Win

December 14, 2016 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Mmmm… At last, the unsung hero of the Star Wars franchise gets his due. Never mind the drama queen Skywalker boys, or that show boating Han Solo, Chewbacca is the “big walking carpet” who gets stuff done. He gets the mission completed without spreading his family drama all over the galaxy. Gerry Dugan is one of my favorite comic book writers. I love his Deadpool run, and was looking forward to reading his Chewbacca adventures. I put it on my list after reading Halb’s review. […]

It was not the novella I was expecting

December 13, 2016 by Emmalita 10 Comments

I have been hearing a lot of chatter amongst the Cannonball Kissing Book aficionados about a book called Kulti. So I went looking to see what I could find. I found an author name and it looked like she had written a lot of books. As I was perusing her books I noticed one for $.99. I bought it thinking it was a novella and I didn’t bother reading the description. I got a few surprises, not all of them good. First of all, it […]

Everybody Sucks But Me

December 13, 2016 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

I have enjoyed Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye series tremendously. I enjoy Fraction’s Clint Barton much more than the Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Volume 3, though, focuses on the other Hawkeye, Kate Bishop. Kate is 21 and from a wealthy family. She may be young and brash, but she’s a great Hawkeye, especially when paired with Clint Barton. Unfortunately, Clint is wallowing in his own feelings and Kate decides she can’t watch anymore. So she takes The dog, flips off daddy and heads for the […]
