Sequel to Furthermore

Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi

by Leave a Comment

Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi is the sequel to a fantasy book Furthermore, which I reviewed earlier. To recap,  Furthermore is a fantasy book for ages 9-12. Set in a magical place called Ferenwood, Furthermore follows 12-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow a girl deprived of love, care, and color. It is Ferenwood tradition for all 12-year-olds to “surrender” their magical talent. Based on their magical talent, they will be assigned a task. Whichwood does involve Alice and Oliver, the main characters from Furthermore, but the main character […]

Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron is a dystopian take on the classic fairy tale. Set 200 years after the fairy tale happened, sixteen-year-old girls are now required to go to an annual ball, where a suitor will select a girl to marry. If after three balls, a girl isn’t selected they are never heard from again. The main character, Sophia, would much rather marry her childhood best friend Erin than some random man that chooses her, attempts to flee the ball. She manages to […]

Best Historical Fiction Book Ever!

The Book Theif by Marcus Zusak

by 3 Comments

The Book Theif by Marcus Zusak is a historical fiction book set during WWII. Although it is a holocaust book, it isn’t set from the traditional perspective nor does it follow the traditional characters. Told from the perspective of Death itself, The Book Theif follows the story of Liesel, a young German girl. She was sent to live with a foster family, the Hubermanns. At the start of the story, Liesel was 9 years old. Her father, whom she never knew, was a communist, and her […]

Unique Dystopian Novel Full of Twists

The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf by Ambelin Kwaymullina

by Leave a Comment

The Interrogation of Ashala Wolf by Ambelin Kwaymullina is a dystopian young adult book set 300 years after the world ended in an environmental cataclysm. In this world, people with “abilities” (some sort of magical skill that they are born with) are considered a threat to “the balance” (an idea that is said to preserve harmony between people and the environment). Because of that, they don’t give citizenship to people with abilities. Instead, they can get exemptions (if their ability is useful to the government). […]

Tear-Worthy Young Adult Book

Counting by 7s by Holly Goldberg Sloan

by 1 Comment

Counting by 7s is a young adult novel written by Holly Goldberg Sloan. It is meant for middle-school-aged readers but can be enjoyed by many more. 12-year-old Willow Chance is considered a “highly gifted child,” a fact that gives her some trouble making friends. Her obsessions with botany and medicine fuel her life, along with her love of her adoptive parents, Jimmy and Roberta Chance. But, as she enters middle school, things start to get messy and everything she knows and loves is gone. SPOILER […]

Wunder-full Book

Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend

by 5 Comments

The Nevermoor series by Jessica Townsend has been one of my favorites since I listened to the 1st book as an audiobook in a long car ride with my family a few years ago. The Nevermoor series is currently 3 books, soon to be 4 in October 2022, but is probably going to end up as 6 to 9 books. This is a fantasy, adventure, and mystery series great for 9+ readers. The first book, and the best, in my opinion, is Nevermoor: The Trials […]
