This sort of novel isn’t usually my jam, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. One caveat though – it is (currently) a duology. The ending will not be neat and tidy – you’ll have to read the next book, which doesn’t come out until mid 2027 (The Last Immortal (The Cosmic Frequency Book 2)). I DID NOT know this at the beginning, since “The Cosmic Frequency Book 1” is nowhere to be seen on the cover or in the title. I was just getting a little close to the end and there was a lot left to do and I started Googling. Anyway, if you know that in advance, you won’t be enraged!
Magellan Brighton is an independent woman who amazingly picks up all music (playing, singing, etc) without much effort. I normally take issue with unnecessarily weird main character names, but I didn’t have a problem with this one. Magellan lives in the current time, but throughout the book travels many centuries back in time. Through some weird dealings that she had nothing to do with, people keep trying to give her a diary that was allegedly Merlin’s (the famed wizard) forgotten twin sister.
There’s a lot of magical music, time travel, fantasy, and labyrinths! (I legit spelled that word wrong even though it’s in the title right next to where I’m typing!) Through it all though, I liked Magellan more and more, and I just kept rooting for her. Oh there’s also a love story in there too, but it’s almost the least important thing? Or maybe I just think that because I’m a (proud) Childless Cat Lady.
