At this point I think it’s just safe to assume that all bed and breakfasts have some weird magical shenanigans going on. I’ve got my eyes on you Vermont, so quaint and charming.

Sixteen year old Calisa is heading to Vermont for the summer to help out at her aunt’s bed and breakfast. She’s nursing her first real heartbreak and hoping a change of scenery will help heal that wound. But what she finds when she gets there is not the cozy inn she barely remembers from her childhood, but a rundown place barely holding on with an aunt who very much does not want her to stay. Calisa is determined to be helpful though and as she learns more about the inn and its guests… she gets the feeling that her aunt and the inn are holding a bigger secret than she ever could have imagined.
I’d previously read the author’s other books, The Spellshop and The Enchanted Greenhouse, and very much enjoyed them so grabbed this from my local library assuming it was a continuation of those without very much investigating. I learned I was wrong and this seems to not be connected to those at all (though who knows what the future holds?). It still very much has their cozy vibes though. I also didn’t realize this was officially categorized as young adult but as I was reading I kept thinking how much I would have enjoyed this when I was fourteen. I absolutely enjoyed it now, but at fourteen I would have died for this book and its characters. Read it yourself as a sweet little treat but definitely pass it on to any young teens in your life who enjoy a little magic.
