Not going to write a super long review here. This was a very good romance. I honestly gave it 5 stars since it made me smile and we didn’t really have to deal with the main character (Elise) being ridiculous and stirring up a fake fight in the third act. I liked Elise and I liked her romance with Ben. I also loved that for once, we get a romance novel that also focuses on the female friendship of the main character. The core plot of this book is Elise dealing with two of her friend’s weddings (which is a lot) in a short amount of time, but also that feeling you get when it seems as if your friends have moved on and you feel stuck. You actually get the sense that all four of the characters love and support each other and it’s not just them randomly getting together to move the plot forward and or talking about men all of the time. I gave up on some romance authors that wrote book series where it seemed all of the female characters just sat around talking about their love interests and that was it, it’s boring as heck to read about.
Fancy Meeting You Here follows florist Elise Ngo. Elise is feeling a little left out of things since all of her friends are 1) coupled up and 2) two of them are about to be married. Her business isn’t doing as well as she expected and she’s worried she may have to stop doing what she loves. While at the wedding of one of her closest friends, Rebecca, she finally meets the brother she kept hearing about, but never met, Ben. Ben at first glance is a jerk, but since Elise refuses to be pushed over, she figures she will never see him again. Of course, she’s wrong.
I won’t say this is a classic enemies to lovers trope book because honestly the enemies portion was fairly short lived. As I said, I liked what we get to see in the friends group, loved the chemistry of Elise and Ben and we actually get some fairly steamy love scenes in this one that I thought were missing from The Donut Trap. Speaking of that book, I loved that we also get to see Alex from The Donut Trap. You don’t get to ‘see’ Jas, but you hear how well things are going for her which was great.
