This was a library impulse grab. The White Cat’s Revenge as Plotted from the Dragon’ King’s Lap (v.1) is as you might guess from the title one of the trendy isekai manga with a long-ish title. It is also as you might guess total fluff, wish fulfillment for anyone who might have felt overshadowed or overlooked. IT’s basically a Cinderella tale of two childhood friends, one of whom (Ruri) never seems to get to enjoy things for herself thanks to the presence of her golden child childhood pal Asahi. Ruri has natural platinum blond hair; Asahi want that color too; Ruri gets told she must dye her hair black. Ruri has a toy Asahi wants; Ruri must give it to Asahi or be shunned for being cold. Ruri works really hard to get into a college that Asahi can’t get into; Asahi moves in nearby. The two girls get isekai’ed (summoned) to some generically medieval magical world where Asahi is deemed to be a savior priestess; Ruri gets dragged along until the prince who is jealous of Asahi’s attention to Ruri banishes Rurir from the kingdom.
From here, Ruri gets her fairy tale. After a scare or two, she meets a local wise woman who helps her out. By the time Ruri goes on an errand to the city, she has learned that she is a favorite of fairies on whom the magic system depends (so she has massive magic reserves), she has a magic ring that turns her into a cat, she has a connection to the Time Fairy, and she says she has a grudge against the kingdom who banished her (but it doesn’t seem that she’s actually that angry?). At the same time, the Dragon King of the neighboring kingdom is getting sick of his advisors trying to get him to marry a local girl, at this point they don’t even care who she is. He’d rather do paperwork. Dragon King sneaks out of palace; Ruri arrives in the city. They have a chance encounter but don’t know who each other is. End volume. Let’s guess what happens next. It’s cute, but not much else.
