I have a microphone on my desk at home that I use for meetings when I’m working from home. When I first got it my old boss used to tease me that I looked like a radio host, and then I’d do my cheesy radio voice. This book has nothing to do with that, but I’m guessing there’s a cool microphone involved in the audiobook and the podcast it’s about.
This is one of those books that you should ABSOLUTELY listen to the audiobook version if you’re going to read it. It’s well acted, and it feels like you’re listening to a (long) podcast with some additional content. I love love love an audiobook. When I was little, if someone ever told me that I could read a book while I was taking a walk or driving my car, I would’ve thought they were crazy. Now I do it all the time though, and it definitely enriches my life. Anyway, GO BOOKS!
Poe Webb (yes named after the Poe you’re thinking of) is a true crime podcaster who gets people to confess crimes they’ve committed to her and her audience. We start off hearing about a guy and a dog, and believe me I was worried. I will ruin the surprise by saying that the dog is OK! Again though, not the point of the book. One day Poe gets a kinda weird guy on her show and he says something along the lines of him murdering Poe’s mother. Now at this point, very few people know that Poe’s mother was actually murdered. She of course gets freaked out and ends the call.
She’s both intrigued and terrified, because many years ago, Poe killed who she thought was her mom’s murderer. The story plays out like you’d expect, but it’s still a cool story. I think it could’ve used a little trimming in the last few hours, but it was still an engaging listen.
