I have to say, this was a very good romance, but I am never going to be happy if I have to scan something with my phone to go and read the rest of a book I bought. I was so irritated. It didn’t help that my phone since being forcibly upgraded has made it aggravating to use. There was also a song I could listen to and that was a hard nope from me. Everything before this though really worked for me. I thought the chemistry between the two leads, Maya and Charlie was off the charts. I loved that the book took place in a destination I am familiar with (D.C.) and that we got some insidey looks into how political campaigns work (I unfortunately knew and thought that Romanoff did a great job depicting things.
Big Fan which is the first in what appears to be a planned series follows political consultant Maya. Maya just got her guy elected President of the United States, but most people in D.C. are avoiding her after her marriage blew up due to her husband, a senator, thinking the interns were fair game. That right there had me rooting for Maya and ready to rip her ex’s face off.
Maya is looking for work and her long time friend helps her get an interview with his candidate who wants to be governor of Massachusetts. Maya though is cautioned to not make herself the news story this time around. And she seems to be doing great, until a long time teen crush rushes out to her about helping him sell his new album. Maya turns the job down, but she ends up meeting Charlie, former lead singer of Mischief. And all she feels is heat.
The book does a great job of showing Maya conflicted about going after what she really wants versus her job. I think that since it’s told from her POV we get to see her very well. And I do think that Romanoff did a great job of us seeing Charlie via Maya’s POV as well. All in all, solid romance, just didn’t like that I had to go elsewhere to read the epilogue.
