As the sixth novel in the Honey Badger Chronicles (and who even knows what number in Laurenston’s extended shifter universe), readers will know exactly what they are getting into with this one. After the first three novels focused on the MacKilligan sisters finding hijinks and love, the following three have followed Max’s basketball team members as they get closer to the O’Malley brothers (Siberian tiger shifters).
Laurenston knows that we are primarily here for the sisters, and especially Charlie, so unlike other romance series where the previous characters might have small appearances, the sisters still loom large, and if anything, the romance (this time between Nelle and Keane) takes a back seat to the shenanigans and violent plots they get involved in. Plus the baking – every one’s fear of getting Charlie riled up and measuring her mood by the amount of baking she does continues to be a hilarious bit running thriving these. To be honest, if Laurenston doesn’t already have a couple in mind for the next one, I would happily read one that just develops the characters and stories more, no central love story needed. Technically there is one more basketball player left but she has been coupled off the entire series already (however, we found a fourth MacKilligan sister a few novels back – she’s just too young to settle down).
This one follows up on the plot line that has been building over the last few novels involving the Italian lion clan (we also meet their American cousins who very much don’t want to be associated with all this) and their nefarious dealings. After the previous activities, they continue to escalate and things come to a head in this novel.
As always, these books will leave you laughing, entertained and wishing for a bakery nearby.
