Was pleasantly surprised how much I like this one. The last Jones book was kind of a mess to me, but this one hit the sweet spot. I only gave it 4 stars though because the cliffhanger ending irked the life out of me. I like my suspense novels to wrap things up in the end please.
Killing Me Softly follows married couple Freya and Charlie. A power couple, she is a hardworking charity worker that manages apparently millions of pounds. Charlie is the new hot chef in London. They arrive at Charlie’s boss’s home expecting that Charlie is about to be given a promotion. Things turn sour though and then follows a terrible accident. The story shifts months later with Freya and Charlie gone from London and trying to set up a new restaurant and rebuild their lives. But both of them no longer trust each other. The book follows both Charlie and Freya’s POVs.
I honestly liked this one. I didn’t know what was going on and kept switching back and forth between what was going on and which character, if any, was the “bad guy.” I liked being kept on my toes. The revelations when they did came, came towards almost the end of the book, so of course I had to go back and re-read some things.
As I said above, the only thing that I didn’t like really was the ending.
