CBR 16 Bingo – Bananas. If a rom-com mixed with a murder mystery happening at a wedding isn’t bananas, I don’t know what is!
Like many of my bingo reads this year, this book has been on my TBR for a while, and I used bingo as a reason to finally read it. This isn’t the type of book I’d usually read, but it came recommended and seemed like it could be fun, so I added it to my TBR and eventually picked it up.
Meddelin Chan accidentally kills her blind date, and then gets help from her mom, who gets help from her aunties, to dispose of the body. However, the body accidentally ends up at a wedding her aunts’ are organizing and absolute chaos ensues. If that all wasn’t enough, Meddelin’s ex-boyfriend happens to own the hotel the wedding is taking place at.
Honestly, the whole plot of the book was absurd (completely bananas) but it was quite entertaining. It was a fairly light read but pretty enjoyable and funny. I’m not usually much for romance or rom-coms but the inclusion of a murder mystery in a rom-com made it enjoyable for me. Also, unlike most rom-coms I found it to be funny and not just tropey.
In general, good book, quite funny, and I would recommend. Even though it doesn’t entirely align to what I usually read, I still liked it and would consider reading the sequel if I have time and am in the mood for it. The writing style was also good, and I would probably read something else from the author.
