How has your summer been so far? I don’t care about places you’ve been, people you’ve seen, or stuff you have done, I want to know what have you read!
I have been having a good summer reading wise. I am once again participating in my local library’s summer reading program. For which I got to write my annual summer reading poem:
There once was a reader from Mass,
Summer reading she wanted to pass,
A limerick she penned,
And so to that end,
More prize tickets she did amass!
I am also part of a new summer short story book club at the library. Each week we discuss a different story from the 2023 Best Short Stories compilation. It is amazing how much you can talk about for something only 15-20 pages long.
I have enjoyed some new titles from a few of my favorite authors. I highly recommend these: (If you are not familiar with any of these authors, you should be, rush out and read their older books also.)
- Otherworldly by F.T. Lukens – another fun YA speculative fiction romance from Lukens
- The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali – Kamali’s third book featuring strong Iranian women
- How to Age Disgracefully by Clare Pooley – a funny book featuring older people
- A Talent for Murder by Peter Swanson – a clever mystery by the master of clever mysteries
I have also discovered some new talent:
- Be Prepared by Vera Brosgol – a charming graphic novel about a Russian immigrant girl going to camp
- Green Dot by Madeleine Gray – a messy love story with a delusional protagonist
- Gwen & Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher – an adorable rom-com set in medieval England
