This was my first “sitting and waiting for my allergy shot” book of the year. I go every Thursday (ish) at lunch time, and I have to get my allergy shot and sit there for 30 minutes to make sure I don’t have a bad reaction. I started last year and would usually play on my phone while I waited, but this year I decided to use my time wisely and read an actual physical book. So needless to say it took a while to finish this one in only 30 ish minute increments.
The main couple has a little baby, and the wife (I cannot remember their names!) is going through post-partum depression. They’re young and well off, and the wife’s parents have lots of money. One night they go next door to a dinner party and leave their baby at home. They’re actually like townhomes or brownstones, so they’re connected. The babysitter cancelled last minute, and the baby was not welcome next door at the dinner party.
The parents go check on the baby every half hour, but when they eventually go home for the night, she’s not there. As you can imagine, panic ensues, the police are called, her parents are called, and there’s blaming all around.
We delve deep into the couple’s past and their present to figure out what happened to poor little Cora. There are a lot of twists and turns and secrets and this book really kept me reading for those aforementioned thirty-minute snippets!
