Rory Brodigan’s gift comes at a cost, and he’s done his best to keep his head down and finding counterfeit antiques pays the bills. However, when Arthur Kenzie waltzes into his life with a job, things get much more complicated. Arthur and his team of paranormal friends do their best to protect the world from supernatural relics, and they need help with this latest one. Arthur’s hoping that Rory can help them with the latest one that has wandered into their hands, but Rory’s reluctant to help for good reasons. Still, exposure to the relic leaves Rory with a vision of more danger headed their way. He can’t help but feel drawn to Arthur, and with the fate of the city involved, he’s not about to back down. Even if it means risking his heart.
So, I picked this up and blew through it in a day. Both Arthur and Rory grabbed me immediately, and I was completely pulled into the story. The plot moved quickly, and while some parts were predictable, many were not. It was a quick read, but a really enjoyable one. All of the characters were really intriguing to me. I especially appreciated the fact that the antagonists were sympathetic and relatable even if they were wrong. I’d love to see more of all of the side characters in the future.
I have so many questions about the world and how magic works in it. Hopefully, there will be some answers in the next book in the series. There were quite a few plot threads that were left dangling as well as a few relationship things that need to be ironed out. I’m really looking forward to seeing how things play out in the next book. Four out of five stars.
