I’ve read a bunch of books since May that were more smut than plot, so here’s a series of mini-reviews in the order I read them:
11 Hours by Octavia Jensen
Briella is a paralegal in a fancy-schmancy law firm. She has an absolute hate/hate relationship with Harrison, one of the firm’s attorneys. One day, while everyone else is at the holiday party, they are working late and get stuck in an elevator together. For ELEVEN HOURS. Which is cuckoo-bananas. What kind of building doesn’t have anyone to check the elevators for that long? That is barely the beginning of the implausibility because after a while they get bored and decide to act on their mutual disdain/attraction and hate fuck each other in the elevator. That’s pretty much the plot. They have a lot of sex, and eventually, they are rescued, and they have to decide if they want to have a relationship or not.
11 Scenes by Octavia Jensen
There was no plot. It is just literally eleven sexy scenes where Briella and Harrison explore different kinks and BDSM dynamics and decide they want to pursue a relationship. It’s kinky, it’s hot, it’s smut. It’s not bad, and a lot better than the first book.
11 Dates by Octavia Jensen
This was definitely the best of the trilogy. This book focuses on eleven important dates throughout the lives of Briella and Harrison. It includes when they got engaged, married, had children, and goes all the way to when their children grew up. For anyone who wants an extended epilogue, this was it.
Whiskey & Sin by Emily Rath
This was my first Omegaverse novel, and it will most likely be my last. I only read it because I LOVE all of Emily Rath’s other books, but this was just not for me. Look, I just feel like if they have animal characteristics, they should also be wolf-shifters or something. Also, I’m a dog trainer and pack theory and dominance training and alphas is all outdated bullshit, so I hate reading about it. Anyway, Silas and Bear were a cute enough couple, and the MM love was hot, but again, I just can’t get over the weird shit like BUTT BABIES!
Never Been Kissed by Timothy Janovsky
This book was not smutty at all, but it was a romantic comedy and I felt the review belonged here. Wren is a 20-something gay male who has never been kissed. He has had a series of almost-kisses however. One night he gets DRUUUNK and emails all the guys he almost kissed. One of those, Derick, is not out of the closet, but may also have feelings for Wren. However, they are spending the summer working at a drive-in movie theater together. TENSION!
This book was cute, especially the parts about saving the drive-in. I worked at a failing art-house movie theater for years, so that really resonated with me. It was also great to see a main character who identified as demi-sexual. He wanted to wait to have a kiss that was special to him. I enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t one of my favorites.
Beautiful Sinner by Sara Cate
Only Sara Cate could get me to read a Sexy Priest book! I was raised Catholic. I have TRAUMA around this stuff, and she still managed to make it hot! Cadence is an American tourist who gets stranded in Ireland. A sweet innkeeper takes her in, but she is also staying with the innkeeper’s brother, hot priest Callum. He’s much older and damn, does that make it hotter? Is this because I watched The Thorn Birds at too young of an age? Anyways, they have a lot of sex and he has to choose between her and the church.
