You have eight bingos – congratulations! Have you participated in Book Bingo in previous years?
I have done Book Bingo at least once before, but I got bogged down with my reviews, so I don’t think I was very successful. Last year I was too busy to even try Book Bingo. This year, I’ve been better at staying up on my reviews. My goal was a blackout, and I’m almost there!
What’s your go-to ‘recommend to new friends’ book?
I think it depends a lot on who I’m talking to and where their interests lie. I don’t even really have a favorite book, although Pride and Prejudice is way up there. When I first met my husband, I recommended A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan.
Your bio mentions wanting more time to spend on ‘random hobbies.’ What are you likely to be doing when you’re not reading?
I love reading, and sometimes there is nothing better than sitting around all day, completely absorbed by a book. But I also like climbing, hiking with my dog, and trying to mountain bike. I’m trying to learn Spanish (and a little Italian for an upcoming trip). I got into bird watching a couple years ago, but since we got our dog, that hobby has devolved into whatever birds I can see while walking the dog. Other things I’d like to do (or learn how to do) but haven’t found the time for lately are music (piano and guitar), photography, and drawing. I’m a strong introvert, so anything where I can create something by myself is very appealing.
What three authors would you want on your pub trivia team?
I’m sticking to authors I’ve read here, and I’m trying to be semi-strategic. I would pick Will Leitch, author of How Lucky because he is a sports writer and could cover all sports questions. Bill Bryson, because he’s written a lot of books about a lot of different things, so I think he would be helpful. Finally, Michelle Obama. I’m sure she’s very knowledgeable, but I also bet she’d be really fun to have on a trivia team.
It’s fall food weather! What’s your favorite sweet or savory treat for autumn?
Hmmm…I think I’d have to go with pumpkin pie. With whipped cream.
