Ooh I liked this one. It’s a common theme in the thriller or suspense genre. Something happens to a teen. Years or decades pass. Something brings the people surrounding the event back together. The truth comes out slowly. More people die!
I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. I love it. I’ve read a bunch of books with that similar theme, but I’ve liked them all.
Our main character is Haley, and the missing/murdered teen was her sister Emma. Haley leaves for a while to go to school and work, but comes back to her hometown to settle down with her fiancé. Her sister’s murder is always in the back of her mind. Some people in the town still can’t interact with Haley without talking about Emma.
The police come up with a bracelet that was found near where Emma died. It was found so many years later, and sheds some light on where Emma may have been murdered (versus where her body was found). Haley and her fiancé go to an open house (because they’re looking for a new home), and one of their high school friends who was also friends with Emma is attacked. You know where this is going. Suspects pop up and are batted down, connections between this attack and Emma’s murder are made, and old buried secrets come to light. Like I said it’s not a brand new plot, but I feel like it’s well done, and I enjoyed reading it. I also like when the initial murder / mystery is solved and you get to find out what really happened at the end!
