Sister-in-laws Peg and Rose never gotten along, but in the interest of repairing their relationship they decide to join a bridge club as partners. When a member of the club is murdered, they decide to work together to find the killer.
This was a breezy cozy mystery, with a case that managed to be interesting without being too much of a head scratcher. I really enjoyed the relationship between Peg and Rose, who are attempting to become friends after a long and contentious history, and how they came to genuinely appreciate each other despite having such different personalities. I’d definitely continue reading this series for that alone.
However, the author did leave some loose ends in regards to the supporting characters – there’s so many people we meet in the bridge club that some secrets are left only half unravelled. Being very nosy, I would have liked to know everything, but as those things didn’t have any bearing on the solution it didn’t leave any holes in the story.
I also did not know going into this book that it is a spin-off of the Melanie Travis cozy mystery series, which I have not read. Consequently this book has plenty of references to characters and stories I did not know, but while I found some of them superfluous I didn’t have trouble following what was going on.
