Two friends and I started a virtual book club. We decided to start with our Kindle Free Reads (totally not what it’s called, but I can’t remember right now!). This was the free book for February I think?
The main character is a maid named Kit. Her life seems pretty fine at the start, aside from not having a lot of money. She does have this problem where she snoops around in the homes of her wealthy clients though. She has a best friend she tells the sordid details to after her snooping adventures. Kit starts cleaning at a new house and realizes she knows the occupants from her earlier life. The husband is a championship skier from the small skiing town where she grew up. We don’t know the details right away, but he did some bad things to her back then. She decides not to ask to be taken off the house right away. First she must snoop.
Throughout the story we see entries in Kit’s diary (hence the book title). We eventually learn what happened to her, and she finds some shocking evidence in the house of the couple. In her past, nobody believed her about the horrible thing he did to her, because he was important and on the ski team, and she was no one important. That all changes when she hits the jackpot during her snooping though.
It looks like she’s murdered though, and nobody can find her body. The skier husband is the main suspect and he goes to jail while they sort it out. I liked it.
