This is a bouncy, rhyming, totally a first book for baby board book. Stay My Baby (due mid-September 2023) is about how a care giver (parent, grandparent, etc.) feels about this new bundle of joy that has come into their lives, or the toddler who is growing quickly. A book that works for first to fourth birthday gifts, but as it aimed towards the fact that the child is young and has big eyes that speak, a mouth that makes sounds, tiny feet that are able to strongly kick, it is probably not for the older children, so know your child’s interest level. On an odd note, it would be an interesting gift to give to your adult child as well. Lana Button’s story is about the love a parent/grandparent/guardian/etc. has, and I think that does not really end at the “now you are a grownup” level.
The photographs are the fun part of the story. We see dads and baby, a dad and baby, moms and baby, grandparent and child, and a diverse cast of rainbow people. They are usually without text themselves, just a photograph that allows you to focus on the baby/child, and the caregiver. The text is usually on a two-page spread that comes before and after images. This package works to keep you moving, but also you do not have to read this book to enjoy it.
And while I am probably not going to be purchasing copies for friends and family, I know several people I would recommend it to for their own needs or for their becoming a grandparent for the first time.
