While browsing Facebook awhile back I found a recording of one of my fellow Cannonballers reading A is for Audra: Broadway’s Leading Ladies from A to Z. I am sorry to say, I forgot to write down your name! Therefore, please consider this my official Thank you! That was fun and appreciated. I do not know about other people, but there is something about being read to that is comforting. Even when you are an adult. Of course, it might be less appropriate to have an adult at a story time without a child in tow, I always appreciated a good author reading where they read their book. Therefore, online read-alouds allow me to comfortably sit, watch, listen and enjoy from the privacy of my own home!
John Robert Allman’s book is a celebration of the ladies of Broadway. Some people you will know, others not so much. They rang from the early years to current times. We see the movers, the shakers, the magic makers! And they are all presented in richly illustrations by Peter Emmerich. The lights of Broadway come alive on each page.
In February of 2022 Allman and Emmerich published B is for Broadway: Onstage and Backstage from A to Z which looks like it captures more of today’s stars (paging Mr. Hamilton) and behind the scenes crew. (I have not found a copy, yet).
My research has shown a handful of books by Allman that are based in the theater, dance, and the arts. And I will be keeping an eye for other works illustrated by Emmerich.
