30 Books in 30 Days, Vol. 2
Book 21/30
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC. It hasn’t affected the content of my review.
I liked this better than the first one! By quite a bit. The romance was very nice. I liked both Clem and Gavin, and thought they had lovely chemistry. The book really took off though when the non-romantic plot got going. I’m glad to say that the fact that Gavin is a witch hunter is not wasted, at all. It’s a significant part of his character growth, and Aguirre doesn’t ignore it in the least. I also thought it was handled really well, how a witch and a witch hunter could fall in love, and the narrative doesn’t just gloss over the difficulties there just to give them their happily ever after. Their HEA is well earned.
I actually think I liked the witch hunting plot better than the romance. I definitely love Benson the mouse. I still hate hate hate that the witches can’t tell their significant others that they are witches. If this isn’t addressed in the next book, I seriously think I am going to go back and lower the first book down by a full star, but that was circumvented here because Gavin already knows about witches, he just has to rewrite his thinking about them.
I listened to the audio ARC for this one, same as the first book, and while Ava Lucas isn’t my favorite narrator ever, she continues to do a solid job with this series. I did love her voice for Gavin.
Very much in for Trevor and Leanne’s book up next.
