You think he makes french toast for every booty call?
And a strawberry garnish…
He garnished your fucking breakfast?
I found this series per CBR 14 reviews. I got the first three from the library then ended up buying the full set of four in digital format.
These novellas follow the love lives of each of the Wong children over a period of time between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day the following year. Each story takes place in Toronto, in the Wong siblings’ hometown of Mosquito Bay, and the surrounding suburbs. The best thing about these books, which are not really present in other similar stories I’ve read, are how the parents and grandparents are critical players in each story. They are annoying and loving, but never overbearing. And it is obvious that the kids adore their family, even if they are often infuriated by their meddling.
The good: Each of these books is very sexy, light, and fun. The drama is low-stakes and they follow the typical formula. However, there are some parts that made me laugh out loud. The style and content of the conversations the siblings have with their friends felt extremely relatable.
The bad: I would like to know more about the characters. They all suffer from being too perfect. Some of them are as expected and others buck the trend slightly. The grandma character was a bit over-the-top at times, but she was a necessary catalyst for the overlapping stories.
A Match Made for Thanksgiving The first book in the series and it is HOT!
A Second Chance Roadtrip for Christmas I didn’t like the protagonist as much in this one but I felt that it was extremely engaging, especially if you’ve ever been tempted to get back with an ex.
A Fake Girlfriend for Chinese New Year Story-wise, this one was the weakest, but it was also the funniest.
A Big Surprise for Valentine’s Day And we circle back with another very hot read.
