Two wildly different women–one a grifter, the other an heiress–are brought together by the scam of a lifetime…
This book tells the story of two women from very different backgrounds. Nina has learned to make a living by playing the con game along with her boyfriend, Lachlan. They make a comfortable living, but her mother is sick and there’s big medical bills to pay. Things start to unravel, and the police come knocking on her door so Nina decides to disappear for awhile. She and Lachlan hatch a plan to head to Reno to pull a scam job on a woman from Nina’s past.
Vanessa is a young heiress, who makes even more money by being an Instagram influencer. She has recently inherited a large family property in Reno, where she has reluctantly moved into after a failed engagement. Her brother had been briefly involved with Nina when they were younger, but Vanessa has no idea that their paths are about to cross again. Away from her followers Vanessa craves some attention, and hopes to rent out a guest house on the property – her first guests will be Nina and Lachlan, posing as Michael the writer and his girlfriend Ashley, needing a quiet place to finish his book. In reality, Nina hopes to steal a large amount of cash she believes is stashed in a safe in the big house.
Once the trio is together in the isolated estate, relationships shift and Vanessa feels that she can steal Lachlan away from Nina. The story is told in alternating viewpoints of the two women, and you begin to wonder which version is real and who really is the con artist here? It’s a bit of a slow buildup in parts, but overall I was hooked from the start to the end of this book.
