This is another one of my popcorn domestic thrillers. This time, the so-called perfect couple is a best selling murder fiction author and her not-so-bestselling, oh-so-slightly-resentful husband/manager. She is haunted by her little brother’s disappearance when she was a child (that she may or may not be at fault for) and the voice of her main character in her book series, who likes to pop up and chat with her at inconvenient times.
This sounds more whimsical then the book actually is. There’s a lot of melodrama and angst in this tortured author’s head. But it’s all still pretty entertaining, especially when the resentful husband goes missing.
This is another one that I feel like sort of whiffs the ending? It’s not the worst #bigtwist I’ve come across, but it all felt unfinished. Still, it was well written and I enjoyed being inside a writer’s mind and hearing about the publishing industry, deadlines, and the pressures of writing a bestselling series.
Also, it was a giveaway the husband was a fink as soon as it was revealed he bought a house for them as a surprise. Don’t do that people! (Not a spoiler, it happens at the beginning of the book).
