June/July 2021 cannot come soon enough! I want to recommend Jop and Blip Wanna Know V01: Can You Hear a Penguin Fart on Mars? And Other Excellent Questions ALL THE TIME.
Jim Benton created a non-fiction question book done in a humorous fiction way. I am sure more than one kid has wondered if you can hear a penguin fart like grandma does, why do we have two nostrils and if dragons are real. You will learn this and more (such as who invented the sandwich). As the copy I read was an ARC I am not sure what the afterwards look like, but there will be full color and at least a few activities you can do as well.
This book is broken down into sections; or basically chapters (though not officially labeled as such). You read one, then you are done. But then the next comes up. And repeat (read, done, go on to next). This helps the child to process what they learned (and for me to make a quick snack break). The illustrations are goofy and relatable (the dinosaur section was beyond LOL for me). There is the right number of details and the color is not overpowering or muted. Kids will enjoy the fact that Jop and Blip are two curious robots that just want to learn. After all, that is what squishy brains are for!
Ages five and six could have this read to them, and ages 7 to (young) 10 can read on their own. There is actually a lot of seriousness mixed into the humor and I as an adult well past the physical age of 10, learned a few things (such as the likelihood of hearing a penguin fart).
