If you in the mood for a light-hearted (mostly) and whimsical fantasy novel, “Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance” is worth checking out. It’s got a slightly slow pace to it, growing and expanding with each chapter. It’s got a wonderful love story in it as well.
Weylen and Mary meet under no special circumstances. Weylen is maybe not human or maybe he is a man with extraordinary gifts. He can control the weather to some degree. He communes with wolves – in fact, he saves Mary from a wolf when both him and her are children and they are forever bound.
Though both of them go through things in their lives that separate them from each other, they continuously find each other over and over, and their relationship grows each time they regroup. Weylen knows his gift is not perfectly controlled and he worries that he will hurt others (especially Mary) with its unpredictable behavior. He meets and grows to love many characters and they love him too; however, he frequently leaves their lives to protect them from himself.
In the end, Weylen realizes that even though there are risks associated with him being with Mary, he loves her and she loves him and hey – isn’t that what it’s all about? He also has a pig named Merlin who is wonderful!
