I recently bought this book and Tarot card deck box set. The cards themselves are beautifully illustrated and colored. However, I’m here to review the book.
Venefica starts with a history of Tarot and a brief introduction to how the Tarot deck works. Venefica then dips into a glossary and overview of larger symbology. She does a great job of laying the foundation of exploration of the cards in depth through the book. Each explanation is easy to understand and doesn’t overload the reader with esoteric connections too quickly.
The next portion of the book cycles through each of the 78 cards in the deck. Each page starts with a short paragraph description of the card and explains a little bit of the the deeper symbology of the card. The description is overloaded though and is still easily accessible for a new Tarot user. Venefica also includes reflective questions that each card cause in the Tarot reader as well as simple descriptions of the meaning of the card. On the opposite page, Venefica provides an explanatory or divinatory interpretation in the upright or reversed position for the self, love, money, career, and family.
Venefica ends with some application of the cards in various configurations for specific questions with examples of draws and her interpretations. These examples provide a wonderful basis for how to start using all the detailed information previously presented. The book ends with a glossary of symbolism that dives much deeper than the beginning portion.
Overall, this book is great start for a new Tarot reader.
