Pea, Bee Jay #1: Stuck Together is the story of three unlikely friends who get into all sorts of trouble. But that is nothing when you are as smart, clever and cool as they are! When Pea decides to take on a dare from the other vegetables and roll pass the fence all the way to the tree, they are caught up in a terrible storm; blown off course. Where they eventually meet a Bee with a secret (for some reason a couple of other bees are looking for her) and Jay, a bluejay that has lost their family because of the storm. Brian “Smitty” Smith made a world that your six to ten-year-old will get a kick out of as they can see themselves (being brave, trying new things, taking responsibility).
While I still wonder, who is the farmer behind this farm (and why are the fruits and veggies not being eaten by humans), this book is a sweet new easy graphic novel/reader. I had a sneak peak of the first part of the story (Pea’s story) and figured it was not going to be very strong. But I was wrong. This new friendship story might have been seen before, but the language and the bright, silly, goofy art, gives it a fresh look and feel. You know these characters, but they are new to you as well.
You will be glad more are planned as your child will want to share more adventures with Pea, Bee and Jay. This is for the kids who were Narwhal and Jelly or Elephant and Piggie fans now ready for the next step. (Brian “Smitty” Smith’s book two is due in September 2020)
