I don’t know if I liked this book or not. When I started it I loved it. The three longer form stories that open Lucy Corin’s One Hundred Apocalypses and Other Apocalypses are propulsive and intense. I read them sitting on a curb in the parking lot during a break at work. The second story “Madmen” about a world where young ladies are taken to a shelter to pick out a Madman to care for are a rite of passage into adulthood, is a soulful comment on the nature of empathy. I loved that story and it stuck with me after I had finished. The other apocalypses which comprise the bulk of the book, were a bit harder to get through.
