I received this book from the lovely Katie for our holiday book exchange. It’s been on my list for awhile but I hadn’t gotten around to it. Until yesterday. Yesterday I sat and read the entire book, it’s a very fun read…which seems like a weird thing to say if you found out that your beloved sister is a 5’2″ gorgeous dynamo of a serial killer, possessing a very large knife to commit her crimes. Luckily for Ayoola (the serial killer), her older less attractive sister Koreda, is a nurse and is very good at cleaning up blood. Korede knows what her sister is doing is wrong and that these men aren’t attacking her, as Ayoola claims and yet she still helps her cover up her kills. But when Ayoola turns her attentions to the handsome doctor Tade that Korede is in love with, will Korede be able to deal with the jealousy? Will she be able to protect Tade? Will she have to save her sister from herself again? These are the questions that the book lays out and satisfyingly answers by the end.
I would recommend this book. It’s written a very simple straightforward way that you end up thinking like Korede without realizing it as the story goes on. I look forward to reading other books by Oyinkan Braitwaite, she’s a very good writer. I thought it was a little more simple in terms of plot than I expected (thinking about more recent stories with crazy plot twists) but it didn’t take away from the dark humor, and frankly was refreshing. This is the story about two sisters and how each of them came to play the roles that they do.
