So I cheated a little bit with this one. A coworker read this book and lent it to me because she loved it and wanted to talk about it. I went to my trusty old CBR page to see if anyone had reviewed it. I saw that badkittyuno read it and loved it, so I knew it was a safe bet: behind-closed-doors-badkittyuno/ So this book will be fulfilling my cbr11bingo Cannonballer Says square!
When my friend Brianne gave me the book she said she read it in two days. Well, I topped that and read it in like 4.5 hours. I just couldn’t stop reading. The sense of dread that it instilled in me was tremendous. I needed to finish the book to make it stop.
The story is simple – a perfect couple live in a perfect house and everyone is envious of their lives. Jack and Grace live in a beautiful mansion, Jack has a ton of money and a great job, and Grace is an amazing cook. They have dinner parties where their friends bask in their perfectness. Grace has a special needs sister that she loves and dotes on. Jack even built a special bedroom just for her.
Of course all is not what it seems. You kinda figure it out very early on, but you don’t get to know the true horror until at least halfway into the book. I was so disturbed so many times, but I COULD NOT STOP. I lent this book to my sister next to read, and she thought it was really good too, but she thought it was disturbing. I mean it was DEF disturbing. I’m into disturbing books though. Read this book.
