Do you have a dad you need to give a cute and fun book to that teaches science and colors? Or, are you a Dad who loves your little rugrat and want to teach them science and colors? You can do either with A Father’s Love by Hannah Holt.
Quirky illustrations from Yee Von Chan show you how fathers in the Animal Kingdom love and care for their offspring. You see the purples, reds and blues and all the other colors of animals and the lands around them. It is peppered with poetic text accenting bright but not overwhelming, sweet but not sugary, simple but detailed illustrations. You see seahorse dads protecting their young and lion fathers watching the cubs.
Perfect book for new dads, Father’s Day or a toddler birthday gift. It would even work up to about first or second grade as a fun story-time read along.
Holt’s book, The Diamond and the Boy: The Creation of Diamonds & The Life of H. Tracy Hall, while for an older audience, is also a great example of her mixing literature and science. And Von Chan’s signature illustrations tie these themes neatly together. Their Finding Christmas (with Lezlie Evans) charm comes out with this gem of a book.
This is a cozy book that is meant to be read aloud as you cuddle your child (or children). You can use this book to talk about fathers, geography and colors. It is fun and educational without being pushy. It also grows with your child.
