I unabashedly loved this book. I borrowed it from the library as an ebook. I couldnt wait to climb into bed each night and read it! I thought that the characters were all well written and realistic. The two time periods were also very different and well explained.
I’m not sure how to write a review of this book without being spoilery, so here’s your warning: SPOILERS AHEAD!!
Kivrin is one of the main characters in this story. She’s an historian, and in the future (2055 I think) the historians travel back in time. She wants to go back to the Middle Ages. Her tutor, Mr. Dunworthy doesn’t want her to because it’s too dangerous. She eventually goes back, and immediately gets sick. At the same time, in the future (the book’s present), everyone else is getting sick too.
Another spoiler!! I literally gasped out loud when Kivrin found out what year she had traveled to. It was NOT the year she was supposed to be in. Because of a miscalculation, she ends up smack in the middle of Black plague time (obviously not where she wanted to be). Additionally, since she was sick right when she came through, she had no idea where her return pickup was!
I absolutely loved the main characters, and the side characters were funny /annoying /slutty, just as they should’ve been. Kind of surprisingly, a lot of people die. For some reason I wasnt expecting that.
I cant wait to talk about this book for the June CBR8 book club! I really want to know if others liked it as much as I did.
