So to start can we just begin with how perfect this cover is? It’s everything one wants from a romance: so many feelings and emotions are tied up in that cover. Anywho, I haven’t read any reviews for this one yet, because 1) I knew I’d be reading and reviewing it myself and 2) I wanted to try to sort out my own thoughts from emotions before getting wrapped up in everyone else’s.
This is the story we’ve all been waiting for: Olivia Eversea and Lyon Redmond. Theirs was a love affair that occurred before any of the Pennyroyal Green books started, and ended with Lyon disappearing and what appeared to be a heartbroken Olivia. Now it’s 5 years (maybe? I can’t remember exactly) later and Olivia is engaged and about to marry another man. Lyon learns of this news, and sets a plan into motion to see how Olivia truly feels about her future husband.
What follows is just a wonderful love story. Told in a combination of the weeks leading up to the wedding and flashbacks to the first time Lyon and Olivia fell in love everything just comes together beautifully. I actually tried to take my time reading this one as it’s the culmination of so many stories and I wanted to savor it. For the most part it really lived up to every expectation. It has similar themes as What I Did for a Duke (in my top 5 romances of all time), and you really got to see both characters grow and evolve which I always enjoy.
There isn’t a lot to this review, but overall this one just made me really, really happy. That’s all I can ask for in a romance. I haven’t said anything about the epilogue, and I’m currently choosing to ignore it’s existence because it was weird and off-putting. I’m sure others have discussed much better. So overall: the whole Pennyroyal Green series is now published. Go read them all. They’re worth it, and the final book, unlike many other series, won’t leave you disappointed.
