What a delightfully charming book to read in an evening. Reminiscent of Eleanor & Park with a touch of Fangirl, the Improbable Theory of Ana & Zak tells the story of two high school seniors with nothing in common who forge an unlikely friendship over the course of a crazy night.
Zak is an intelligent, albeit lazy, student who would rather play card games than write health papers; this gets him in trouble and he is told to participate in Quize Bowl or take summer school to earn his diploma. Ana is Quiz Bowl captain; a brilliant over achiever who is frightened of disappointing her parents in case she ends up like her sister. Ana’s brother escapes the Quiz Bowl hotel to go to the comic book convention Zak is missing to participate in the tournament. Ana and Zak must put aside their differences and team up to rescue him (from fun!) before their chaperone finds out.
This one requires some suspension of disbelief on your part but thats what makes it fun. I can see this easily translating into a PG movie like Sleepover or Funsize .
If you like Rainbow Rowell this a must read!
