And I’m here. Thank goodness for a snow day today (for 4 inches of snow. Wimps.), because my world just became so much better. BEST ROMANCE YET THIS YEAR. Everyone: if you read romance, and have not read this one yet I MUST INSIST you do so. It does start a touch slow, but oh, goodness was this one a winner.
The fifth book of the Pennyroyal Green series, What I Did For a Duke, gave me every feeling I thought my cold, dead, cynical heart had destroyed. It’s the story of Genevieve Eversea and Alex Montcrieffe, Duke of Falconbridge. We’re once again at a house party in Sussex, Genevieve’s ancestral home, with her mooning over a boy and the duke arriving to seek revenge on her brother for being an arse. The story that results is one of the sweetest, nicest and realistic romances I’ve ever read. Yes, Alex is almost twice her age, but for once it doesn’t feel icky. Genevieve isn’t some flighty, flippant virgin (that’s her friend Millicent), but instead thoughtful, intelligent and shaped much more as a real person. I don’t want to give more away of their wonderful story where people actually say what they mean to each other. Just enjoy.
And I’m sorry, I know I’m using so many superlatives, but this book resulted in so SO many feelings. I can’t help it. If you love romances read it. Read it now. If you’ve already read it, read it again! It deserves many a re-read. And a large shoutout now to Mrs. Julien, Malin and my sister who all kept insisting that I needed to read THIS ONE. You were all so very right.
