Full disclosures: this book was written by my dad’s writers’ group, my dad is a fellow Cannonballer (new this year!), and I make no promises not to be biased as hell, ’cause Dad is awesome.
Each story has to do with something we’ve all encountered: badness while traveling. At the end of each story, the author tells his/her own worst travel story, which I thought was a neat touch. There are regular road trip troubles, and adventures with ghosts and witches and other dimensions, and all sorts of different ways plans can go disastrously wrong. My favorite story was about a spaceship getting stuck in a wormhole.
The stories are all pretty clever, but like any anthology, there are highs and lows. And since it’s a semi-amateur collection, there were a few things that made me wince. (Dad, where was your red pen?!) Overall, though, this was very creative and well done and I would totally read it even if I didn’t know any of the authors.
