Lana Harvey lives in Limbo City (a place where all souls of all religions go), she’s a reaper (that doesn’t cause death but has to shepherd souls to their respective afterlife). The problem with Lana is that after 300 years, she’s still not inspired by the work and makes sure to do the maximum minimum. Unfortunately for her, her boss is the Grim Reaper and shockingly, he has just given her a promotion that involves a task that must be completed or Limbo City and life on Earth could be thrown off balance by demons who want to overthrow the balance of power and also ancient gods who aren’t happy with their current presence/lack of souls travelling to their afterlife. So much for drinking beer with her best friend, the drunken angel Gabriel while pursuing the ever sexy Angel of Hell, Malik.
Ok, so the synopsis, even as I read it sounds…hmm…dumb…silly? But it didn’t feel that way. Yeah, it’s got “paranormal romance” elements in it for sure…but it didn’t have me rolling my eyes at Lana’s actions like I had at say, Sookie Stackhouse. Author, Angela Roquet does a wonderful job of mingling different religions, ancient gods and goddesses and creates a really cool and rich setting of Limbo city. The plot moves quickly, the setting and the characters are well developed and hey? It’s a free book on Amazon…it was enough to suck me in and read the next few books in the series over the course of the weekend. You probably won’t gain any massive insights but the book is a light, enjoyable read. I thought the following books in the series are a bit better in terms of story, but this provides the necessary exposition for the continuation of the series.
