If I Stay is the story of Mia, a seventeen year old cellist, who is in a horrific car accident that kills her family and leaves her in critical condition. Mia has an out of body experience during the course of the novel, watching over her comatose body struggling to make a decision: should she die and join her family, or live.
Spoiler Alert
There is a sequel.
If I Stay was pretty breezy for a novel about life and death. Mia spends most of the novel reminiscing about her life so far, mostly about her boyfriend, Adam, who is an up and coming rock-star. The accident happened while she was having a few issues with him and their future because she had recently auditioned for Julliard. She also remembers her parents, who were a bit unconventional but raised Mia and her brother, Teddy, in a world full of music and love.
I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, though like I said the story continues in another novel. I just don’t know if I’m interested enough in Mia’s journey to seek out Where She Went.
