Patient Zero, at first look, is a book about zombies. However, the zombies are just a side story to the main action. Joe Ledger is a cop, about to head off to the FBI academy, when a bust brings him face to face with a terrorist cell, plotting to release a plague that will decimate the world. Approached by a super secret agency, he finds himself suddenly on the front lines.
The story flips back and forth between the agents and the terrorists, while never giving away too much to spoil the final battles. It was a fun book, full of action and GOOD! vs EVIL! My eyes glazed over at times when the descriptions of guns and hand-to-hand contact went on a bit too long, but all-in-all it was a well-painted world with fully fleshed characters, even if all were a bit bigger than life. Not many women, though they were strong, they all still managed to cry and mope a little too much.
