“Here was life, gently reminding her that she could care again. That her grief was allowed, but so was her joy.”

Mrs. Martin's Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan

October 8, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was a little on the nose in parts (mostly dialogue), but it was also full of spit and vinegar. I could feel Courtney Milan’s rage (tempered with good humor) on every page, and it wasn’t an incoherent rage, more like a well-harnessed one. The rest of her body of work shows compassion for men caught up in the same patriarchal system that puts women at an inherent disadvantage, but I guess she just needed let this one rip, just let out a pure expression […]

How to Talk to Nice English Girls by Gretchen Evans

October 2, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

Another book where I’ve been putting off the review, but this time because I couldn’t work up the energy to talk about it. This was a rec from KJ Charles on Goodreads (she’s a good follow for more eclectic and/or self-pubbed books) and I’m glad I picked it up, but I’m not sure I’ll read any more books by this author. It was solidly in ‘I liked this but meh’ territory. Historical f/f romance is so hard to find, and when I’ve found it, it […]

I think I just wanted this to be a novel.

Once Ghosted, Twice Shy (Reluctant Royals, #2.5) by Alyssa Cole

March 28, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

I liked this little novella less upon finishing it than I do now. It’s been a month since I finished it; should have written a review at the time. Story of my life, print it on a t-shirt. But in fairness to me, I was a bit distracted that weekend from the annual wonderfest known as the Tucson Festival of Books, a beautiful celebration of literacy and imagination and yummy food that is always held on or near my birthday, so happy birthday to me. […]

Sweet Steam

February 13, 2017 by Lane 1 Comment

Imogene Hale is different. She does not like men. She does not want children. She is brilliant but uneducated. She seeks to broaden her world and hopefully meet some fellow “perverts” by becoming a maid at the vampire nest. There she meets an enigmatic and very sexy inventor. A sweet story about love and coming out in a vampire riddled Victorian England. Romancing The Inventor takes place in the great Parasol Protectorate and Soulless universe but it is a stand alone novella. This was my […]
