CBR12 Book Bingo – Green

Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan

September 29, 2020 by randirock Leave a Comment

To round out the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, I had to read Rich People Problems. I say “had to” because this was my least favorite of the three. However, I felt invested in the characters, and I love to tie a nice bow on a good series, which, altogether, I think it was. It was certainly an entertaining distraction from the events of 2020. It’s been about two months since I’ve read Rich People Problems, and I think it speaks to the quality of the book when I say that I […]

Never saw the movie, and the book has not inspired me to do so

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

Bingo Review 6: Adaptation I never did go see the movie Crazy Rich Asians, but when it first came out and was such a big hit, I thought it sounded entertaining, and picked up the book. It’s been on my shelf ever since. I haven’t gotten to it until now because I often don’t like general fiction novels or romance. This book was written very much as a romantic comedy, and much of the plot follows the expected trajectory of boy and girl are getting […]

“I take fifty milligrams of amitriptyline every night, and then an extra ten milligrams of Ambien if I really want to sleep through the night. Sometimes I add a Lunesta, and if that doesn’t work, I get out the Valium—”

Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1) by Kevin Kwan

I had fun with this and I will be reading the sequels, but for me this is one of the few cases where the movie did it better. I saw the movie first, which I try not to do for the most part, but I’m honestly glad I did it that way. The actors really brought a lot of dimension to their characters that was lacking in the book, and the movie also had a much more clear arc than the book, which doesn’t focus […]

“Nowhere in the world are there to be found people richer than the Chinese.” ~ IBN BATUTA (FOURTEENTH CENTURY)

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

CBR11 Bingo: Travel Like most people I fell head over heels in love with the rich world director Jon M Chu created with last year’s Crazy Rich Asians but I hadn’t gotten around to reading the novel it was based on. In a way I am glad I saw the movie first because it pales in comparison to the source materiel and I would have probably been disappointed. Whenever I read the book after watching the movie I find it a lot easier to enjoy […]

Rich People Problems Comes with Backstory

Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan

February 26, 2019 by bronte1848 2 Comments

As I have stated in a previous post I love learning about other cultures. Rich People Problems, the third book in the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy, provides readers like me with insight into a number of different cultures as it tells the story of the Young family and all the relatives on the outskirts.  While the previous books focus more on Nick and Rachel this book also tells more about Kitty Pong and adds to the backstory of Su Yi, Nicks grandmother and the family […]

Crazy, Rich, Crazy Rich

December 9, 2018 by Fiat.Luxury 1 Comment

The Fug Girls made me read this.  The photos of the premiers of Crazy Rich Asians were all just so glam.  I obviously had to see the movie.  I mean:   But I can’t see the movie if I haven’t read the book.  So I obviously had to read the book. By now you probably know the main plot: woman (Rachel) goes to Singapore to meet boyfriend’s (Nick) family.  Turns out he’s rich like whoa.  She is blindsided by the money, the lifestyle, and the […]
