I like books, but my eyes are bigger than my stomach. Disclaimer: I do not actually eat books.

“Who on earth could feel comfortable enough to sleep in a room with no books?”

September 2, 2016 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

My Lady Jane is a cute reimagining of the story of Lady Jane Grey. This version involves a war not over religion but over shapeshifters. E∂ians  possess an ancient magic that allows them to change into the form of an animal, while certain people believe E∂ians are an abomination and should be destroyed. It’s very funny and there are silly anachronistic asides throughout the book. There’s also a healthy dose of romance between Jane and her arranged husband. I really enjoyed reading this, and it […]

“Oh, for God’s sake, it’s Patsy!”

September 2, 2016 by Caitycat 1 Comment

This series is my new favorite thing. Patsy Walker/Hellcat is really funny and spunky and awesome. It ranks up there with my other favorite, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. You can read my full review here. P.S. The title is from this guy here: I actually think about this scene and the line delivery all the time.

“To describe how you feel after a girl explodes in your pre-calc class is a tad tricky…”

September 2, 2016 by Caitycat 2 Comments

Spontaneous is about a senior class who suddenly falls victim to a series of explosions. The students suddenly burst apart, leaving behind blood and pieces. There’s no rhyme or reason to the explosions, but it only happens to the seniors who go to their school. It’s actually really funny. You can read my full review here. Save

“Because maybe if the gesture is grand enough, and perfect enough, it won’t be unrequited at all and I, Graham William Posner— lanky, pale, glasses, and with a penchant for fantasy worlds— will actually get the girl…”

August 1, 2016 by Caitycat Leave a Comment

Graham is in love with his best friend Roxy, and he has decided to confess his feelings at New York Comic Con. When their favorite author, the reclusive and fictional Robert Zinc, announces that he will be making a surprise appearance, it seems like the stars have aligned. All Graham has to do is camp out all night, bribe his friend into letting him have the second ticket, and he can confess his love after the panel. It’s a recipe for nerdy love! Unfortunately, for […]

“Crying doesn’t do anything except make me soggy and tired. But getting good and pissed, that’s the type of fuel that keeps a person marching through one shitty day after another…”

Save Kate Karyus Quinn’s third book about weird stuff happening to and around teenagers is my favorite yet. She started with Another Little Piece, about an ancient spirit that bargains with teenage girls. They get their deepest desire, but at a very high cost. (Don’t You) Forget About Me was the story of a town so perfect that people live for centuries. If only there wasn’t the tiny problem of teenagers causing mischief, mayhem, dismemberment, and death. Down with the Shine is about a girl […]

“Better busy than bored…idle nerds become supervillains…”

June 27, 2016 by Caitycat 1 Comment

The Only Thing Worse Than Me Is You is a YA retelling of Much Ado About Nothing. The story is set in a competitive high school for geniuses. Beatrice and Benedick are now Trixie and Ben, but they still fight with the same fervor. Trixie is particularly fierce. Hero and Claudio are now Harper and Cornell, and their new relationship is being affected by their best friends’ inability to get along. The characters are all super smart and into comics and Doctor Who and all […]
