The concept of No God in Eden was interesting enough to me to try to overcome my leeriness about ABO manga (it’s usually not very good, in my opinion — I’ve read too much great ABO fanfic to settle, as someone who was lurking around on Livejournal when it was first invented) and the first volume was solid enough for me to pick up the second one. But I don’t know if I’ll continue with it, because I looked at the summaries for the next few books and it looks like it’s going to be a stressful road. I feel like I broke one of my cardinal rules of not buying the beginning of potentially long BL series before they’re done, and now I have two volumes and will most likely abandon the series here and get rid of them. I understand that the author has to keep the drama going to keep the reader engaged, but this didn’t make me want to keep picking up future volumes.
Takai and Nishio are high school classmates who suddenly turn into an alpha (Takai) and an omega (Nishio) and have to figure out how to deal with this in a world where it isn’t a thing. I thought that concept was interesting — how would two people who have no clue what’s happening to them cope in this overwhelming circumstance. They managed decently enough in the first volume, and in the second one they have to continue to hide it from their parents and teachers while also coping with the feelings they’re developing for each other. Most of this volume is taken up with pining and miscommunication and misunderstandings, which was stressful to me and I had to keep flipping ahead to see if they could navigate it. I did like where they ended up, although I think I do think that you could be fine stopping here, it’s a satisfying ending and I thought this might have been the final volume. It looks like there are at least two more coming out. I liked the art and I liked the characters, and there were sweet moments here, but I don’t want to continue reading for the long-term — probably due to my tension that they’re going to get into trouble and be found out, too much stress for me!
