God of Seduction in the Bedroom is a sweet romance manga about a Satoru, who is the world’s worst lover and thus has had every girlfriend break up with him. After his latest time being dumped, Ecchan, the god of seduction, shows up and states that it will find him a partner that he is compatible with. Because Satoru is so terrible at sex, there’s only one compatible person for him — Shinya, a popular actor. In one of many magical coincidences in this manga, Satoru works at an ad agency that also works with Shinya and this allows them to meet and through a variety of shenanigans, begin sleeping together. They have amazing sex immediately even though both of them thought they were straight and have never had sex with a man before. They both develop feelings but miscommunication causes them to stop talking to each other until they manage to pull it together and confess their love.
In writing out this summary, I was struck by the amount of ridiculous events that happen, but it is a comedic work and the tone works for the most part. I did find it creepy that the god was able to take over Satoru’s body and make him ask Shinya for sex, as well as the fact that it was there a lot of the time telling Satoru what to do during sex — consent issues abound. The art was solid if not a little plain. I liked the contrast between their two different personalities and the funny side characters. I also was happy that there was an additional stand-alone short story at the end of the book, which felt like good value for money. That story is another somewhat silly scenario about making a perfume and one guy needing to smell the other guy to be able to do so, and then they end up in a relationship.
Overall enjoyable! It is weird enough that I think you’d have had to read a lot of BL to get into this one because it’s probably for a specific taste, but I like novel concepts so I was happy with it.
