This is the fourth Bangers & Mash book I’ve read by MM Farmer. These are light, silly, sexy, and fun. If you’re looking for something deep and meaningful, this is not it. And that’s great! It’s lighthearted and a fun read to tune out and enjoy some downtime.
Evan Mercer is a mega popstar. He’s been a teen idol his entire career, even as he’s transitioned to his twenties. At twenty-five, he’s finally able to end his recording contract and write songs that are more appropriately aligned with his life as an adult. His manager, Dirk Greely (the most evil-sounding name ever), is pressuring Evan to re-sign with his current label, and keep Dirk on as his manager. Evan has made it clear that he is done with his label and with Dirk.
While all of this is going on, Evan is preparing to go into his semi-annual heat cycle. He’s hired professional alphas to take him through his heat before, but this is his first time hiring one from Bangers & Mash.
As preparation for this, the assigned alpha, Sable, comes to meet with Evan weeks in advance to make sure it’s a good match and to make sure that Evan is comfortable with the alpha the agency selected for him.
Dirk is livid. He wants to control where and with whom Evan spends his heat, but Evan pushes back on him again. Sable is smitten with Evan from the beginning, which is both unprofessional and unexpected. Upon leaving, he wonders if he should request an assignment change.
Two weeks later, Evan’s heat starts, Sable shows up, bing bang boom: fireworks. They like each other and the sex is awesome, but neither one of them follow up because they blame heat hormones and they don’t want to risk flirting and making it unprofessional. Which is silly considering the context of their relationship but, whatever.
A few weeks go by and somehow, a video of their time together is leaked. Suddenly, sweet little teen pop idol Evan is branded a perverted sex fiend, and Sable is outed. Evan has to deal with his fall from grace, and Sable has to figure out how he fits into the story.
For this book, I give it a 8/10 for sexytimes, a 6/10 for story, and a 5/10 for character. Evan and Sable are fine, the story is more interesting than expected, and the sexy parts are very sexy. Unfortunately, 2/3rds of the story take place post-sextape leak, and is more about Evan’s problems with the press and Sable’s massive crush on him.
