Higuchi is a young doctor whose aim is to become a cardiovascular surgeon, but he’s been transferred to a depopulating small port town to work in general internal medicine for a bit due to a traumatic experience he had while performing a surgery. He doesn’t like being out in the sticks and he feels like he’s being punished for messing up, although his supervisor is clearly trying to give him a mental health break and the time to recover from his flashbacks and shaking whenever he gets overwhelmed. He meets a yakuza, Tenju, and they start having sex (a lot of sex). Tenju is mysterious and cool, and he has the ability to take control and make Higuchi feel submissive and cared for. However, Tenju’s yakuza organization has their own issues going on and Tenju wants to protect Higuchi from getting to involved with him. Feelings start developing between them and Teju pulls back, leaving Higuchi unsure of whether to pursue their connection or to stay in his safer, more law-abiding life.
I really enjoyed this work. The art in this is gorgeous, with interesting, lively line work. Both main characters are very attractive. It is extremely explicit, even for BL manga — they were using language here that you don’t usually see in these books and I was honestly glad to see someone really going for it in an erotic manga. It was also uncensored, which for someone who grew up during the era of censored BL, is still a bit of a shock to the system. I liked how their relationship developed, with hesitations on both ends, but with some solid communication worked in throughout. I also liked the inclusion of some fun side characters, which made the world feel more fleshed out and populated. Tenju’s yakuza underlings in particular were a welcome presence in this book.
For the BL conniseur, this is worth picking up if you can handle some very 18+++ scenes occurring nonstop. Recommended!
