This was a kindle selection, and I can’t really remember how I got to it. I think I was trying to fulfill a certain category for the seasonal kindle challenges, but I don’t even remember what the category was! I’ve never been a big fan of poetry, because I always get caught up in whether it rhymes or not, and whether it should rhyme or not. I also feel a little dumb when I read poetry, because I find that more often than not, I don’t get it. Or I think I get it, but I’m super unsure, and that makes me just feel dumb.
There were definitely some poems in here that I “got”, but most of them I was like “is that about sex?”, because I feel like that’s usually a safe bet for poems and songs. I’m guessing I was right about the ones I thought were about sex, but I can’t say I was right about much else.
Like I said in the title, the poems were beautiful. I could feel as I was reading them that they were beautiful. But I know that as a sciency girl with a super logical mind that if I continue to try reading poetry, I should be prepared to feel the same way as I always have.
If anyone has any recommendations for any poetry that may fit into my style more appropriately, please let me know! I’d love to be someone who “gets” poetry and even enjoys it. I’m just not there yet!
