I first tried to read this book several years back on e-book, which I had checked out from the library. I had it out for months and never got past a third of the way through. I resigned myself to trying again later. Later came in March of this year because I wanted to get back into Loretta Chase, and this book was standing in my way. I got my hands on a physical copy and commenced reading. I started from the beginning, and things were going well! I was all, why did I give up on this! It’s fun!
And then I hit 1/3 of the way through and my interest drooped almost instantly. It was a fight to pick this back up and I ended up having to speed-read through until the end of the book, and then I normal-read the last chapter or so. (Side note: I highly recommend learning how to speed-read. Very useful when you want to know information and don’t care about emotional stuff.) Honestly, this book is probably just a bit of a dud, but I blame the canals.
I don’t remember character names, so sorry about that, but the lady ran her own estate while her dad (the supposed lord or whatever, again can’t be arsed) frittered around obsessing over plants. Or was it bugs? Or both? Either way, his head isn’t in the game. And then this dude shows up, and he had some emotional thing or other, can’t recall, but he was a dandy and cared very much about fashion and the lady DID NOT CARE about fashion and this bothered him. And he was trying to place a canal in this county? And had to convince the lords or whatever?
Anyway, that’s how this book went for me. Happy to be moving on with my life now. They get together and live HEA The End.
